Reader’s Question:

How will I know if I really need a home insurance policy? I was able to purchase quite an old house in Pennsylvania and I’m afraid I might be charged with high premium.

Hi Martina.

I hope you are reading this in a super form.
Chances are, if you own a home, then you might be loaded with a lot of offerings for home insurance. Remember that before you get to start looking for the cheapest policy, you need to find out first what home insurance is for and acquaint yourself with the available policies and options. You can even compare from a couple of companies up to maybe about 5.

For most standard home insurance polices, you will be offered financial coverage of the structural part of your home and also the property within the home. You may purchase additional liability for your family which can also include coverage for your pets. For most home insurance polices, coverage would normally include losses and damages caused by theft, accidents within, and natural disasters in your area.

So the question is, how much are you going to pay as premiums?

This will now be determined by your home’s structure, amount of liability you choose, and the personal property that you own. What’s really important here is to make sure that you get enough insurance to cover the cost to rebuild your home in today’s high market prices in the event of a catastrophe or natural disaster in Pennsylvania. In computing this, the cost of the land is not included in the value, but rather the cost of rebuilding and repair.
